Presentations

Over the last several years, several Powerpoint presentations have been developed by Robert McGrath in conjunction with the program. These can be freely distributed or modified, though appropriate credit is appreciated. If you would like Dr. McGrath to present for you, or you find errors or have suggestions related with any of the presentations, please contact us today.

Being an Informed Consumer of Drug Research
This presentation was developed for the January 2005 Midwinter Meeting of Division 55. The presentation is intended to provide consumers of drug research with a basic toolkit that can be used when reading and evaluating pharmaceutical research.

The Case Against RxP
Another presentation developed for the January 2005 Midwinter Meeting of Division 55. This presents the two primary cases psychiatry has made against RxP, and explains why they are false.

Is RxP the Right Move?
This presentation was developed for presentation to the Tennessee Psychological Association in 2003 to help quell concerns about RxP.

The APA Model Curriculum Practicum
Presented at the 2004 APA convention on the inherent problems with the practicum as outlined in the APA Model Curriculum. The bottom line is that the practicum as stated is unworkable.

Professional Issues (2005)
This presentation was developed for the 2005 Meeting of the Georgia Psychological Association. This presentation discusses the current status of professional issues associated with pharmacotherapy, including an early version of the pharmacotherapy practice guidelines.

Integrating Assessment and RxP
My two primary interests at this point have to do with RxP and issues in assessment. This 2003 presentation from APA represents a first attempt at bringing the two together. I believe assessment has an important role to play in the future of pharmacotherapy, and there is a great deal of work to be done on investigating their synthesis.

Tennessee Legislative Hearings (2005)
This presentation was developed to describe the FDU psychopharmacology program at 2005 Tennessee legislative hearings on prescriptive authority. Some of this material is also incorporated into presentations developed by the Tennessee Psychological Association for those same hearings.

TPA Presentation (2005)
This is the complete presentation made by the Tennessee Psych Association to the legislature. Lots of excellent stuff.

Issues in Prescribing for Psychologists (2006)
This was a presentation made to a Department of Psychiatry at a state hospital on prescribing for psychologists. The focus was therefore on why it is important that psychologists acquire prescriptive authority, and the differences in prescribing models. You will find information on such issues as the proportion of psychotropic prescriptions written by psychiatrists, the rate at which psychologists versus psychiatrists prescribe, and the safety of psychologists' prescribing.
